Slack 11 and Dropline are working together

Hey, just putting out the word that Slackware 11 and and Dropline Gnome 2.16 are playing together nicely with our build scripts. The Dropline team is still working out a few bugs, but they're doing a great job and we're looking forward to showcasing their work a little. We still have quite a bit of tweaking and reorganization to do before the 0.5 release, but are excited about it at the same time. If you have any requests or suggestions, drop by on IRC (irc.epicvoyage.org/#backpack) or add a request on our bug tracker (currently: http://backpack.epicvoyage.org/project/issues/backpack).

Some new developments

We haven't said a lot lately and apologize. Things have been busy, but work is still being done. At the moment we are working on upgrading to test Dropline on Slackware 11 RC 1 (Slackware-current for those who aren't watching the news :). There has also been some work on using Slamd64 for a 64-bit version but there are still a few bugs to work out. Just letting you know what we're up to.

Patch to fix several small issues

It was bound to happen. The release party could only last so long before enough bugs were reported to warrant a patch. It's a little over 9MB and patches the javac script, additional module support, AppArmor, and a couple other things. You can find a more complete description (and instructions for applying the patch) here.

Release! Finally!

Hey, it happened. The release is here! (It should almost be code-named "One more build" in honor of the phrase spoken so many times in the last month.) On the project list for the next release are a dedicated domain, documentation, forums, and an installer. There are probably many updates, bug fixes, and changes that are needed to our shiny new build system also. For now there is a working auto-mounter for harddrive partitions (read-only by default), Gnome 2.14.1, Ruby, AppArmor, and more. Enjoy!
